On July 15, the opening ceremony of the “Chinese + Maritime Vocational Skills” New Technology International Training Course for Developing Countries, organized by the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology and hosted by our school, was held in JMI. A total of 29 crew members from the Belt and Road countries, including Bangladesh, Tajikistan, Congo, and Nigeria, participated in this training.
Leaders attending the opening ceremony and giving speeches included Zang Ying, a fourth-level researcher from the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Miao Keyin, the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of our school, and Quan Dong, the head of the Examination Section of the Crew Examination Center of the Jiangsu Maritime Safety Administration. Some of the training instructors and administrative staff also participated in the opening ceremony.
Zang Ying extended a warm welcome to all the international trainees and pointed out that this training course aims to implement the foreign aid work of the Ministry of Science and Technology, strengthening technological exchanges between China and developing countries in shipbuilding and maritime science and technology. Jiangsu Maritime Institute should fully utilize its advantages in maritime vocational education and its mature experience in international crew training to provide high-level maritime vocational skills training for the participants, and to support the connectivity of developing countries along the Belt and Road with shipping talents. She hopes that the trainees and instructors will learn from each other, enhance friendships, and together contribute to the development of international maritime science and technology and education.
Miao Keyin expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology for their support of the project, and warmly welcomed all the leaders, experts, and trainees who attended the opening ceremony of the training course. He pointed out that the hosting of the training course is part of the school's international education and service to the high-quality development of the country’s Belt and Road Initiative and maritime power strategy, which is of great significance for the school to promote disciplinary development and build a world-renowned high-level applied maritime institute. The school will continuously strengthen guidance, management, and services for the training course, aiming to develop a sustainable, replicable, and scalable model of industry-education integration, which can be promoted along the Belt and Road countries.
Quan Dong pointed out that the holding of this training class helps to implement the Belt and Road Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Action Plan, serve the high-quality development of the country's Belt and Road construction, and promote maritime science and technology and cultural exchanges between our country, Jiangsu Province, and ASEAN countries. He hopes that all the trainees will take this opportunity to gain a deep understanding of the latest trends in modern ship engine technology, marine pollution prevention, and intelligent ship engine room technology. They should apply what they have learned to their future work, making greater contributions to the maritime industries of their respective countries and regions.
This training course will last for two weeks. Experts from Zhejiang University, Dalian Maritime University, Shanghai Maritime University, Jiangsu Maritime Safety Administration, Jiangsu Ocean Shipping Co. Ltd., and our school will be invited. Through specialized lectures, practical skill training, visits, internships, and interactive exchanges, trainees will systematically learn about the application of maritime vocational skills and related integrated innovation and development courses. Special activities such as Chinese culture experiences will also be organized during the training.
